This piece is called "The Funeral Brain" and is inspired by an experience I had while taking a walk in a period of time during the COVID times, where I was out on a walk one day listening to different things, trying basically to distract myself, and I was self isolating very hard at the time. In the middle of a major depressive episode, and it was really dark, I always explained to people, I love analogies and metaphors, so for example I just said, "Have you seen Star Wars?" And they said, "Oh yeah, I said well I'm on the dark side." And conceptually they get it, but unless you've lived it, you don't know what it's like to have a funeral in your brain. And the piece was inspired by Ted Talk by Andrew Solomon. I'll have the link somewhere around this video. And he used a quotation by Emily Dickinson about a funeral in her brain, and the feeling, etc. And in that moment, a piece of, well, his telling of it, and the fact that it's a significant piece of literature, and it just stopped me in my tracks, because I had never heard someone describe it so well in so few words. The feeling of a funeral in the brain is very much a feeling I can associate with being at open casket funerals, which are, there's not a lot of good vibes there. I mean, it's a lot of sadness and a lot of grief. And it's just sad and downcast. Anyway, the... [wind] What is it about it? So it was in that video that I had first heard that phrase, and it just, it absolutely nailed the feeling for me personally. So not only do I use Star Wars, but I also use that quotation now. And that's why you see a coffin inside of a brain. Pretty simple. People get it right away. And, yeah, this piece is, I'm really happy with how it is turned out. So, I should mention the RIP ego. The RIP or resting piece ego in the middle of the coffin in the brain. So, something I've experienced having had depression for as long as I've had it, had it, is I've essentially felt any fabricated sense of self, which would be an ego all by a monkey that you did get. So, just life with myself. And, yeah, that's what I'm communicating. Do check out and do some of its talk. Alright, I hope you'll be well.
