OVERVIEW I am a designer and technologist with over 25 years experience with visual design, systems design, and coding. It is my passion and I feel fortunate to do be doing this work for as long as I have. The question I constantly ask is this: How do we best inform, facilitate, educate, and delight the audience? My current focus is making the user experience inside software smarter — with research, testing, and decades of experience designing software. These efforts lead to quantifiable engagement with people, which is a far cry from tactics of the past. My current typical work tasks include strategic planning, product and user research, data analysis, visual research and design, fully responsive programming, analytics and reporting. EXPERIENCE User Experience Designer / Art+Logic / June 2016 – Present My focus is making the user's experience of any product as intuitive, clean, and delightful as possible. Communicating to users through image, word, color, iconography, or layout in ways that have been proven through user, product, and market research is so important Senior Web and Email Designer / AGIA / October 2013–September 2015 My focus was in improving user experience by designing smarter, responsive digital marketing campaigns using email, landing pages, and analytics. The campaigns were customized and tailored by user behavior to deliver content relevant to them. This all lead to measurable improvements in engagement with people. We used a full suite of analytics tools to measure A/B and multivariate testing. This type of work includes strategic planning, product and user research, visual design, fully responsive programming and robust analytics and reporting. Creative Director and Developer / Berchman.com / January 2009 - Present My studio provides web consulting, web design and web development to clients worldwide. I have worked on over 160 different website projects including websites, email marketing, landing pages, analytics, video, and custom plugins for clients in many different industries including technology, design, advertising and many solo entrepreneurs. Partner and Lead Designer / Dennison+Wolfe / January 2009 - December 2011 I helped develop website networks within specific industries; Non-Profits, Law Firms, Restaurants, etc. Responsible for creative direction, design and production for all company branding as well as all client website work. Primarily built website networks on WordPress with extensive custom programming. I also helped manage and overseas development team that did many custom projects for our clients. Creative Director / HamiltonBerchman Design Group, Inc. / June 2005 - January 2009 I started HamiltonBerchman to focus on small business communications and marketing consulting. I provided design and marketing services for both web and print projects for clients within many different industries. Director of Communications / The Thacher School / February 1999 - June 2005 Art direction and design of all institutional communications both print and web based: monthly magazine, website, and all periodic communications. Creative Director for The Campaign for Thacher, the school’s $80 million dollar Capital Campaign. Faculty Advisor to the student yearbook, El Archivero, mentoring students in graphic design and photography. IT and Production Manager, Web Developer / JDA, Inc. / May 1996 - February 1999 Information Technology Manager, Production Manager, Primary Web Developer. Managed 10 workstation design studio. Oversight and management of file servers and all digital archives. Designed and developed all client websites. Developed pre-press standards and processes sought by commercial printers for their high level of excellence so they could distribute to their clients for better project submissions. AWARDS American Web Design Awards 2012 My work for Access Communications website received a design award from Graphic Design USA. Fine Arts Library Collection Award, Stevens-German Library : Hartwick College My painting was selected from annual student art exhibition by faculty jury for placement into Hartwick’s permanent art collection.
