Set the mood for sleep.

Soft lighting sets the mood for sleep, so an hour before bedtime, turn off any extra lights and start winding down.

Turn off the TV.

Watching TV in bed is bad for sleep, so resist the remote and read something or listen to music instead.

Turn the clock away.

Sleep time is no time to be watching the clock. Cover clocks or turn them away from the bed. Ask for a wake-up call if you're worried about sleeping too late.

Avoid the minibar.

A nightcap can make falling asleep seem easier, but more typically it makes staying that way harder.

Draw the drapes tight.

A dark room is better for sleep. So make sure your windows have good coverage.

Check the temperature.

A cool room is better for sleep, so turn down the thermostat or crack open a window.
