Windows Vista

Please note that the connection instructions for Windows Vista have been simplified since Air Sharing version 1.0.

After launching Air Sharing, you may connect to it from a Windows Vista computer by following these steps:

• Open the Start menu and select Computer.
• Click Map network drive in the toolbar at the top of the Computer window.
• Select a drive letter in the drop-down menu.
• Enter Air Sharing’s IP address. Alternatively, if Bonjour has been connected (e.g. if you have installed Bonjour for Windows, iTunes, or Safari), you may enter Air Sharing’s Bonjour address.
• Make sure the Reconnect at login box is unchecked.
• If prompted (i.e. if you have turned on Require Password in Air Sharing), enter your username and password. Vista may ask for your password multiple times. Make sure your user name is the one you have set in Air Sharing, as Vista sometimes adds extra characters to it.

Your Air Sharing network drive should now be mounted and ready to use.

To reconnect to Air Sharing in the future, first make sure that Air Sharing is running. Open the Start menu and click Computer. Find the network drive under Network Locations and double-click it.

After the drive is set up, if you decide to enable a password, or change your current username or password for Air Sharing, you will need to do the following:

• Open the Start menu and select Computer.
• Find the network drive under Network Locations.
• Right click on the network drive and select Disconnect.
• Set up the drive again.

Patching Windows XP

Before connecting to Air Sharing in Windows XP for the first time, you should first download and install Microsoft’s Software Update for Web Folders. The patch, which fixes bugs and enhances security, may be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907306

After launching Air Sharing, you may connect to it from a Windows XP computer by following these steps:

• Open the Start menu and select My Network Places.
• In the Network Tasks panel in the blue toolbar on the left, click Add a Network Place.
• Click Next at the Add Network Place Wizard welcome screen.
• Select Choose another network location and then click Next.
• Enter Air Sharing’s IP address and click Next. Alternatively, if Bonjour has been connected (e.g. if you have installed Bonjour for Windows, iTunes, or Safari), you may enter Air Sharing’s Bonjour address. The advantage of using the Bonjour address is that it will always be the same (unless you change the name of your device), whereas the IP address may change from one day to the next.
• Enter a name for this new connection.
• Be sure Open this network place when I click Finish is checked.
• Press Finish.
• If prompted (i.e. if you have turned on Require Password in Air Sharing), enter your username and password.

Your Air Sharing web folder should now be mounted and ready to use.

To reconnect to Air Sharing in the future, first make sure that Air Sharing is running, then open the Start menu, click Computer, and double-click on your network place. If prompted, enter your user name and password.

Alternative WebDAV Clients

In order to avoid some of the quirks in Windows XP, you may want to consider installing another WebDAV client. Several are available, including AnyClient, BitKinex WebDAV Client, CrossFTP, WebDrive, and Novell's free NetDrive.

Public Access

If you turn on Require Password in Settings, you will be required to enter a password to access Air Sharing from a computer. But you may also optionally turn on Public Access, which will allow the Public folder to be accessible by anybody. To connect to your Public folder, guests would simply connect to your IP or Bonjour address, followed by /Public
